GOD’S (AGAPE) LOVE: MISSION POSSIBLE

fog heart Love is a very powerful word given to us by God and often exploited by humankind. The most common forms of love used in the 21st century are Eros, Storge and Philia; not necessarily in that order. However, these forms of love pale in comparison to Agape or the love of God. While the word love is generally considered an unconditional action toward a person, place or thing, rarely do people, places, or things get unconditional action on a consistent basis, therefore, it becomes manipulative and exploitative. When love is used to manipulate or exploit, it us usually said in jest and not as a point of fact.
“Our mission, if we choose to accept it, is to embrace the love of God that is found in Christ Jesus, and give it away to as many people as possible as often as we can.”
However, love as characterized by God (Agape) takes on an entirely different meaning, especially in the scripture. In scripture, we know that God’s love is unconditional and unwavering; it is intricately tied to God’s mission for God’s people: redemption, salvation, eternal life. As we accept God’s love, we become agents of God in fulfilling God’s mission throughout the world. Our mission, if we choose to accept it, is to embrace the love of God that is found in Christ Jesus, and give it away to as many people as possible as often as we can.

There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth. It sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest name on earth; Oh, how I love Jesus, Oh, how I love Jesus, Oh, how I love Jesus; Because He first loved me. It tells me of a Savior’s love, who died and set me free. It tells me of His precious blood, the sinner’s perfect plea. It tells of One whose loving heart, can feel my deepest woe. Who in each sorrow bears a part, that none can bear below.

Oh, how I love Jesus, Oh, how I love Jesus, Oh, how I love Jesus. Because He first loved me.
